Introduction to Sculpture with Stephen Newton - In this course, students will create three different artworks using a variety of techniques and materials. The first sculpture is a figurative bust in clay which will be fired, then a patina applied using pigmented surface applications (not glaze). The second sculpture develops an assemblage using found and recycled materials. This sculpture may serve a practical purpose such as repurposing an item of furniture. The third sculpture is a soft construction using twigs, cane, wire and paper. Reminiscent of the technique of paper lanterns, this sculpture can be further developed using colour and lighting effects, with the final artwork being free-standing, suspended, or wall mounted.
