Creative Stone Setting with Renata Fojtikova - Precious and semiprecious stones create a meaningful addition to any piece of jewellery. They can be a story of their own, yet they can also add a valuable ‘chapter’ to the stories makers tell through their jewels. This short course will introduce you to the core setting techniques for irregular, cabochoned as well as faceted stones. Working to a design outline you will be carefully guided through all the steps required to successfully create a suite of jewellery that features natural gems. We will explore settings such as cages for tumbled stones, claw setting and different types of rub-over settings. These will include bezel setting, tube setting and flush setting. You will also have a unique opportunity to meet local gem dealers who can supply you with ethically sourced quality gems in the future. This course is suitable for beginners as well as for experienced jewellery makers wishing to add stone setting to their current skills set.
