This workshop with Geoffrey Harley, is aimed at the beginner or intermediate painter. We will examine a number of different experimental approaches to pure abstraction - manipulating paint on a surface to create lines, shapes and textures that interact in a structured way. The exercises will be referenced to art history and to the elements of art to increase the theoretical understanding of the work. The workshop will begin with smaller exercises and move onto a larger work. Students are encouraged to bring any sketchbooks, experiments or painting that have been done in the past.
