
Introduction to Enamelling with Catherine Large introduces students to enamelling and enables them to create colourful vitreous enamel jewellery. While emphasis will be on kiln fired enamelling, use of the gas torch to fire enamel will also be introduced. Techniques such as sifting, layering, wet-packing, stencilling, scraffito and the use of millefiore and glass threads will be covered in the course. Students will also be taught basic silversmithing skills such as cutting, filing, drilling and riveting to be able to turn their enamel work into wearable jewellery. This course is suitable for beginners and those with some experience. Upon completion of this course students it is anticipated will have a number of finished works.
