Originally popular for its utilitarian function as a clothing & scarf fastener, brooches have been highly sought after by collectors and fashion connoisseurs for a long time. Popular for their expressive and decorative character, brooches are currently experiencing a revival. Explore this wonderful type of jewellery in this short workshop. Working in copper, brass and silver, you will learn how to construct different types of brooches. At the same time, you will be introduced to core silversmithing techniques including sawing, saw piercing, drilling, annealing and soldering. With the assistance of an experienced tutor, you will create unique pieces from copper/brass and silver. A simple design outline, with a room for your own ideas will also be provided. This workshop is suitable for absolute beginners as well as for skilled makers looking to add new skills to their current practice.
