Description

In this fun and lively course with Clare Purser, students will be painting from the landscape, still life, and the life model. Finished work may be representational in style or looser and more expressive, but the starting point for all paintings will be observing from life. For each subject, students will complete a series of observational studies, where they observe value in a restricted palette before moving on to painting with colour.

Fundamental to the course will be the sketchbook. Students will use this to record preliminary studies and painted sketches, as well as ideas, inspiration, and research. The class will also look closely at a variety of artists, their techniques, and explore how students can incorporate some of these methods into their own work. There will be opportunities to share work with the class, and students will be supported with feedback and ideas along the way. If a student has a particular interest they would like to develop during the semester, please let the tutor know, as Clare will be happy to accommodate them.

Please check the semester materials list for your class.

NB. Enrolment in this class will be unavailable four weeks after the commencement date or if the class is full.
The annual program of Semester 1 classes is online in November and Semester 2 classes are online in June.
Please notify me when new classes are open for enrolment.
