Transform your figurative painting by treating supports as active participants, in this class with Mia Clark. Drawing inspiration from artists such as Debbie Taylor-Kernan, Amy Drury, and Mark Horst, this course explores painting over rich, multi-layered, collaged and paint-built backgrounds to create semi-abstract or more realistic figures that interact with the background. We will begin by building multiple (e.g., 4 to 6) multi-layered acrylic surfaces with and/or without collaged elements. Using the figure reference sketches we create, we will explore various processes to extract the figure from the background in ways best suited to the imagery.
