Introduction to Abstract Painting

Introduction to Abstract Painting with Geoffrey Harley - This course is aimed at the beginner and the intermediate painter. We will examine a number of different approaches to pure abstraction and abstraction of a subject. The exercises will be referenced to art history and to the elements of design to increase the theoretical understanding of the work. Whilst acrylic paints will be the major medium, participants are encouraged to use a range of media – whatever media you are most comfortable with. The course will begin with smaller exercises and move onto a major painting. Students are encouraged to bring any sketchbooks, experiments or painting that have been done in the past.
